18 Wheeler Truck Safety Issues

Public Awareness Campaign

15 Passenger VanGas tanks that explode on impact. Seat belts that break open during a crash. Unsafe vehicle designs that lead to injuries and even death. Over 5,000 death's in Texas alone - have been caused by collisions with 18-wheeler trucks. Through our cases and support of nonprofit groups, Perry & Haas works to remove unsafe vehicles from our streets and highways.

Everyday, more than 555,000 18-wheelers travel our highways bringing goods from all over the world. They also bring something else - death and injury. More than 5,000 deaths and 125,000 injuries in the US are caused annually by collisions with these trucks.

In 1998, Texas led the nation in these frightening statistics: 477 deaths and more than 12,000 people injured in collisions with large trucks; 93 truck-drivers killed on the job; and 56 children under 18 years old were killed as a result of collisions with large trucks.

Truck-driver fatigue has been cited as a probable factor in up to 40 percent of these crashes. Yet, one of the top priorities of the trucking industry has been to actually increase the number of hours truckers are allowed to drive. Perry & Haas is working to make sure just the opposite happens - limit behind-the-wheel hours, increase rest time between shifts, create tougher requirements for safer trucks, have better pay and training for drivers, and require more inspections for both the trucks and drivers.

Perry & Haas is working to make highways safer.
